How to Extend the Lifespan and Warranty of Your LED Fixture
An LED fixture, LED tube fixture or LED batten is known for its high efficiency and long lifespan. However, you only achieve maximum performance when the fixture is properly installed, protected and maintained. In this article, you’ll learn how to optimise the lifespan and warranty of your LED tube lighting.
1. Ensure proper heat dissipation
Heat is the biggest enemy of LED technology. An LED fixture that cannot dissipate heat will quickly lose light output and may last up to 30% less. Here’s how to prevent that:
● Choose fixtures with an aluminium housing or thermally optimised design.
● Do not place insulation material directly over the fixture.
● Maintain at least 10–15 cm of free space around LED tube fixtures.
2. Match the fixture to the environment
An LED tube fixture is sensitive to moisture, dust, vibrations and extreme temperatures. Especially in warehouses, workshops and parking garages, the environment strongly determines the lifespan. Therefore, it is recommended to:
● Use IP65 LED battens in humid or dusty environments.
● Choose IK08 or higher where impact or vibration is possible.
● Check whether the temperature range suits the application (e.g. -20°C to +40°C).
3. Ensure correct installation
Incorrect wiring or improper electrical connections can void the warranty of your LED tube lighting. Therefore, pay attention to the following:
● Verify that the correct drivers and supply voltages are used.
● Have the installation carried out by a certified installer.
● Consider sensors, such as an LED tube fixture with sensor, to avoid false triggers.
4. Perform regular maintenance
LED fixtures also require maintenance to operate efficiently. Here’s what to do:
● Clean the housing and diffuser 1–2 times per year.
● Check cables, connectors and any sensors.
● Perform periodic light measurements to maintain consistent lux levels.
By ensuring good heat dissipation, proper environmental protection, correct installation and regular maintenance, you significantly extend the lifespan of any LED fixture. This preserves maximum energy efficiency and prevents warranty issues.
