Save Directly on Energy and Maintenance Costs with Your LED Fixtures

Have you recently installed new LED fixtures, LED tube fixtures or compact LED battens in your building? Then you’re already benefiting from lower costs and a more efficient lighting system. In this article, you’ll discover how to get even more out of your investment and which steps you can take yourself to save on both energy and maintenance.

Lower energy costs: less wattage, same light output

A modern LED fixture consumes up to 50% less energy than conventional lighting while maintaining the same light output. For example, where an old fluorescent tube consumes 58W, an LED tube fixture delivers the same lumen output with only 28–35W. This reduces your energy bill immediately without compromising on lighting quality.

Lower replacement costs thanks to long lifespan

Another advantage of LED fixtures is their lifespan of 50,000 to 70,000 operating hours. This means less downtime, fewer replacement hours and lower maintenance costs. Especially in warehouses or production halls where lifts are required to replace lighting, this results in significant savings. LED tube lighting also lasts considerably longer than traditional fluorescent lamps.

Calculate your total savings

For this calculation example, we assume 10 hours of usage per day, 5 working days per week. This equals:

● 10 hours × 5 days × 52 weeks = 2,600 operating hours per year

Example (10 fixtures):

● Old fluorescent installation: 10 × 58W × 2,600 hours = 1,508 kWh per year

● New LED batten: 10 × 30W × 2,600 hours = 780 kWh per year

Annual savings: 728 kWh

At an average electricity price of €0.30/kWh, you save roughly €218 per year.

Calculate your payback time

The payback time for an LED fixture is typically between 1 and 3 years. The more intensively the lighting is used, the faster the investment pays for itself. Installers and facility managers often use this to optimise budgets or plan replacement projects.

Save even more: sensors and smart controls

Want to reduce your consumption even further? Consider using motion sensors, twilight switches or daylight control systems.

● Motion sensors switch on an LED tube fixture or LED batten only when someone is present. This prevents unnecessary burning hours, especially in corridors, changing rooms, technical areas and warehouse aisles.

● Daylight sensors automatically dim fixtures when sufficient natural light enters, resulting in an additional 20–40% savings.

● Timers in building management systems ensure that lighting switches off automatically outside working hours.

These extra savings come on top of the already low consumption of your LED installation, further shortening the payback time.
