Hoe kies je de juiste lengte voor je railverlichting

How to Determine the Right Length for Your Track Lighting

Choosing the right LED track lighting starts with proper planning. A frequently asked question is: how long should the track be for my space? The length determines not only the light distribution but also the flexibility of your setup.

1. Calculate the required length per zone

Start with the dimensions of the space. In a warehouse or store, it is smart to calculate per lighting zone. A simple guideline: use approximately 1 meter of track lighting per 1 to 1.5 meters of ceiling length. This prevents dark areas and ensures even light distribution.

In a store that is 10 meters long, you would typically choose a rail between 7 and 10 meters. Thanks to the modular system, you can link multiple tracks or shorten them to fit your ceiling layout perfectly.

2. Consider the number of track spots

The length of your track also depends on the number of track spots you want to install. On average, 1 track spot per 1 to 1.2 meters of rail is recommended for general lighting.

If you want more accent lighting, for example above products, work areas or art pieces, it’s better to calculate with 1 spot per 0.8 to 1 meter of rail. This creates more focused lighting and higher light intensity where needed.

With 1-phase track lighting, all spots turn on at the same time, which is ideal for smaller spaces or fixed lighting scenes. For larger installations, 3-phase track lighting is often chosen because it allows you to switch between different lighting groups.

3. Think ahead about future expansion

A common mistake is planning too tightly. Always leave room for future expansion — for example for new workstations, product displays or layout changes. By installing extra connectors or corner pieces in advance, you can expand later without dismantling the system.

Conclusion

The right length for your LED track lighting depends on the space, the number of spots and the desired light distribution. As a guideline: 1 spot per 1 to 1.2 meters of track for general lighting, and 1 spot per meter or less for accent lighting. Measure carefully, plan per zone and think ahead. This way you get the most out of your track lighting — efficient, flexible and future-proof.
